Connect With Steve McCarron

Steve McCarron knew he wanted to work as a journalist the day two Seattle television news anchors visited his 5th grade class. After hearing about their passion for meeting new people every day and sharing the stories that affect their lives, he was hooked.

A native of Kent, Washington, Steve is thrilled to be back in Seattle! He joined KOMO 4 News in June 2014 after two years as a reporter and fill-in anchor in Portland, Oregon. During his first day on the air at KPTV, he was part of wall-to-wall coverage of a 4-alarm fire that destroyed a portion of Woodburn High School. Steve also reported on the deadly Clackamas Town Center shooting in December 2012. His report on a scrapbook full of 1950s photographs that was found in a Forest Grove couple's laundry room wall helped reunite a cherished keepsake with its rightful owner, a Washington woman who lived several hundred miles away.

Steve also spent nearly five years as a reporter and weekend producer in Fresno, California. He was on the ground shortly after a destructive pileup involving about 100 cars and trucks shut down a mile-long stretch of Highway 99 near Selma in 2007. He reported near the frontlines of numerous devastating wildfires and the economic impacts caused by the region's crippling drought. One of his most memorable moments was meeting a three-year-old girl whose family benefited from a unique program that provides free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions. A few weeks after his story aired, she passed away. Her family decided to play his story at her memorial service because it captured some of her final days.

Steve is a proud graduate of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. Go Cougs! As a student, he was honored to get the opportunity to meet the late Peter Jennings during the 2004 Murrow Symposium. After graduation, he spent five weeks as an intern in Spokane before getting the call to report at KAPP-TV in the Yakima Valley. He began his career on his birthday in 2004. He was named weekend co-anchor and helped launch the station's dual market weekend newscasts in January 2006.

In his spare time, Steve loves to travel, explore new hiking trails, watch movies, entertain friends, and try out new restaurants and beers/wines. During his time in Central California, Steve hiked Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. He's also participated in several half-marathons.

Steve lives in Seattle with his fiancé.

He's always looking for an incredible story to share. Feel free to send him a tweet or an email. He'll be glad to say "Hello."
