Dozens of barges loose on the Ohio River
MOUNDSVILE, W. Va. (WTOV) —
More than three dozen barges are loose on the Ohio River in Marshall County.
The Moundsville Bridge was shut down for about three hours this morning, but reopened around 10 a.m., according to Moundsville police.
Crews are working to retrieve the unmanned barges at a boat dock in McMechen. Tugboats are also headed south on the river to try and get control of the vessels.
We are told the barges came loose early this morning in the Benwood area. The U.S. Coast Guard is monitoring the issue.
News9 has contacted representatives with the coast guard and are awaiting more details.
