Washington State Patrol: Macklemore was driving on suspended license in crash
LANGLEY, Wash. (KOMO) - The Washington State Patrol says Seattle rapper Macklemore was cited for driving with a suspended license after his Mercedes was struck by a suspected drunken driver.
Trooper Heather Axtman says Macklemore's license had been suspended over an unpaid ticket. She wasn't sure what the ticket was for. She says he has since paid the ticket and his license is no longer suspended.
A suspected drunken driver in a Chevy pickup crashed head-on into Macklemore's 2016 S-Class Mercedes on Friday night as the rapper was driving with two passengers near the Whidbey Island town of Langley.
Macklemore and his two passengers were not injured in the crash. The pickup driver, a 24-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Macklemore, 34, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, has collaborated with producer Ryan Lewis to produce a number of hits. The duo's single "Thrift Shop" reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2013.
