Thieves targeting locked garages in Lynnwood
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. - Snohomish County Sheriff Deputies are alerting the community about garage burglaries at apartment complexes.
Investigators said about a dozen burglaries have been reported within the past few weeks around the area between 164th and 167th and Alderwood Mall Parkway, as well as 128th.
Snohomish County deputies said thieves tamper with the lock then disengage the door from the track to allow the garage door to be opened.
Victims like Jason Fox were not surprised that thieves are targeting apartment garages in Lynnwood. He said his car was broken into parked across from one two weeks ago.
“It’s just like an eerie feeling when someone’s been through all your things it kind of feels like someone is still there, almost like a ghost,” said burglary victim Jason Fox. “It definitely makes you looks at things on a daily basis differently."
Snohomish County detectives said even if your car is in a garage, treat it like it’s sitting outside and don't leave valuables in your car.
Deputies said if a garage has a flimsy lock, residents may want to take expensive bikes and tools into their apartment or ask the management company to provide a more secure lock.
“It’s incredibly concerning that we all have to be that much on alert every day,” said garage owner Tamara Miller. “It's just really about being vigilant."
Deputies said one suspect has been arrested by the auto theft task force, but one suspect was still at large.
