'She loved her life:' Family mourns bicyclist killed by hit & run driver in Eatonville
EATONVILLE, Wash. - A devastated family is pleading to find the driver who hit their mom while she was riding her bike Thursday morning, then left her to die along State Route 7 in Eatonville.
The family of Susan Rainwater, 63, is heartbroken and they want justice.
Washington State Patrol troopers said she should have been safe riding her bike in the shoulder along SR 7 and 320th Street, but a driver didn't give her a chance.
For Leah Miller, the unimaginable loss of her mom is made worse by the way she was taken away.
This morning Rainwater went on her daily bike ride, never to come home.
"She didn't deserve to be left on the side of the road with no one to help her because all she ever did was help other people,” said Leah Miller. "She was loving. She loved me more than anything. And she loved my children more than anything and she loved her life."
WSP troopers said a car going northbound on SR 7 and 320th left the roadway, then hit the 63-year-old in the shoulder.
The driver took off and left Rainwater where she died.
Danielle Pacheco first noticed Rainwater’s mangled bike in front of their house when she was heading to work. She then noticed a shoe in road and became suspicious so she walked along the shoulder and hundreds of feet away, she saw the wife, mother and grandmother lying in the grass.
"I looked over and that's when I saw her,” said Pacheco. “How could somebody just hit and run and not notice what they did."
Troopers said with that impact, there's no way the driver didn't know they hit something.
The family there is a chance for justice if someone comes forward.
“Maybe if somebody would have been there sooner, it would have made a difference,” said Miller.
Investigators said they think Rainwater was hit sometime between 8:30 and 9:30 in the morning.
Detectives said they did find broken headlights and black car parts near her body.
