SEATTLE - Officers patrolling businesses in Seattle's SoDo area caught a burglary suspect red-handed early Monday morning, police report.

Detective Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Department says two officers were checking on businesses in the 600 block of South Spokane Street at around 5 a.m. when they noticed that a fence around one business had apparently been cut.

The officers requested backup and then spotted a suspect inside the fenced area searching for something with a flashlight.

When additional officers arrived, they entered the business premises and located the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives questioned the 44-year-old suspect, then booked him into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary.

Jamieson says officers were targeting the area where the suspect was caught because it recently had been hit with a series of burglaries.
