Oregon State Police K9 unit rescues puppies from trunk of car on I-5
MEDFORD, Ore. - A state police K9 team rescued 10 puppies locked in the trunk of a car with no water or air-conditioning Monday afternoon, Oregon State Police said.
The incident happened on Interstate 5, just south of Medford.
Senior Trooper Travis Peterson stopped a northbound 2008 Ford Fusion around 3:30 p.m.
"During the traffic stop several signs of suspicious activity were detected," state police said in a report. "A consent search revealed 10 Husky/German Shepard puppies locked in the trunk with no water and no air-conditioning on a 90 degree day."
Police said the puppies were en route to Seattle from Fontana, Calif. Trooper Peterson cited the owner for Animal Neglect.
"OSP’s K-9 unit is not always about just finding illegal drugs," state police said in a statement, "some days they get to save the lives of puppies."
