Missing hiker’s fiance turns apt. into rescue center; search continues at Vesper Peak
VESPER PEAK, Wash. – The search for missing hiker Sam Sayers is now on its 17th day.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said she was last seen on August 1 near the summit of Vesper Peak off the mountain loop highway.
Her fiance Kevin Dares has transformed their apartment into a search and rescue command center and continues to go into the woods every day alongside search and rescue to find her or a clue.
“The only thing that is happening you cannot control, so the only thing I tell myself every day, especially when I get in those moments is knock it out, you have time for mourning and for that later, but right now the most important thing you can do is bring Sam home,” Dares said.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's office says the Sunrise Mine Trailhead to Vesper Peak will be closed on Saturday, while 10 canine units search the mountain.
