LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- A man has been detained by police after a fire destroyed a vacant home in Lynnwood Wednesday evening.

A relative called 911 around 8:15 p.m. to report the man was acting suicidal and said he was going to set a fire. Firefighters went to the scene in the 19900 block of Locust Way to find the home fully engulfed in flames, according to Leslie Hynes with Snohomish County Fire District 1.

Due to the nature of the 911 call, firefighters had to wait until deputies arrived to secure the area before they could begin fighting the flames.

The man was found by police, but not at the scene of the fire, Hynes said. He was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, firefighters could only fight the fire from the outside as flames became too intense. The home is a total loss.
