Inmate attacks 3 officers at Snohomish County Jail
EVERETT, Wash. - An inmate attacked three officers inside a Snohomish County jail early Wednesday morning.
All three officers were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says two of the deputies will need additional recovery time.
Authorities received a call for help from a corrections deputy inside the jail around 1 a.m.
The inmate, 28, was in maximum security in the jail when the attack occurred. The inmate was outside of his cell for free time and attacked the officer without provocation, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says.
The officer tried to get the inmate under control as additional staff arrived to help.
Two other officers who helped restrain the inmate were also hurt. All three officers are men.
The inmate was evaluated by medical staff and will remain in the Snohomish County Jail.
The inmate was booked last week by Lake Stevens Police for resisting arrest, assaulting an officer, burglary and drugs.
Deputies with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office are investigating the attack.
The last reported serious assault by an inmate on corrections staff occurred last December, the Sheriff's Office says.
