UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- Two people were found shot to death in car outside a University Place neighborhood and deputies are still looking for the gunman, Pierce County Sheriff's Department officials said.

Deputies responded to the scene in the 6100 block of 63rd Street SW around 5:30 a.m. Monday after a neighbor requested a welfare check. The neighbor noticed two people unconscious inside a car that had been parked oddly on a neighborhood street for over an hour and thought they might have passed out, according to department spokesperson Gary Sanders.

But detectives determined the two had instead been fatally shot. Shell casings were found both inside and outside the car, but neighbors didn't report hearing any gunshots, Sanders said.

Deputies believe it was a double murder and are searching for the gunman. No description of a suspect yet has been released yet.

Neighbors say they don't recognize the car and deputies have checked nearby homes, but haven't found any stray bullets. Investigators are asking nearby homeowners to check any home surveillance video for clues.

The victims' identities have not been released, only that they were both men in their 20s or early 30s.
