Dance instructor convicted of molesting teen girl now charged in second incident

An instructor at Stanza Performing Arts Company was sentenced to nine months in jail.

EVERETT, Wash. -- A Monroe dance instructor who was convicted of molesting a teen girl two years ago is now charged in a second molestation incident that happened in 2008, prosecutors say.

The instructor, identified as Kristopher A. Backman, 33, was sentenced to nine months in jail in October after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree child molestation.

As prosecutors were investigating the 2016 case, they worked with another woman who said when she was 14, she had been molested by Backman over several-month period in 2006 and 2007.

Prosecutors now believe they have enough evidence to charge Backman for two additional counts of third degree child molestation.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 23.
