Charge: Kent man raped, held woman captive for 2 horrific days
KENT, Wash. - Police first encountered the 27-year-old alleged victim when she was hiding under the kitchen table of a stranger.
She had jumped out of a vehicle and run into a man's house in the 400 block of Clark Avenue North in the city 20 miles south of Seattle, where police found her trembling and crying, saying, "He's out there."
Officers learned that the woman had reportedly been held raped and held captive for two days. She expected her attacker to follow her. Police coaxed her out from under the table, but she complained of abdomen and rib pain and vomited, reports say.
A 40-year-old man who is reportedly a cousin of the woman is now charged with rape and trying to pimp her out to other people from his apartment. He remains jailed on $500,000 bail.
The woman told police that she and a friend went to the defendant's apartment May 17 to pick up some of her mother's belongings, according to court records. The defendant was known to pimp women out of his apartment and that men would come over to inspect women and have sex with them, police reports say. He would also allegedly take the women's belongings, including their ID, and lock them away.
The woman allegedly remained trapped in her cousin's room, naked. She told police she spotted surveillance cameras and believed the apartment's balcony was too high for her to escape out the window.
The man assaulted the woman several times, raped her again and forced her to snort methamphetamine. Despite multiple attempts to escape, the man would catch her and assault her, according to Kent police.
He also tried to force the woman to earn money for him through prostitution and invited seven to eight men over to "look at her." Finally on May 19, a customer agreed to pay the defendant to have sex with his cousin and took the woman out of the apartment in his SUV.
That man turned into a dead end and reportedly called the defendant to say the woman was "acting weird" and to cancel the date. The woman jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the stranger's home, where she hid beneath the kitchen table until cops arrived.
The woman directed police to the defendant's apartment, where they found items consistent with her account of events, such as her clothing he'd cut with the knife, prostitution ledgers and the sheathed knife.
Prosecutors charged the man last week with first-degree rape and promoting prostitution. SeattlePI is withholding his name to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
