4-year-old airlifted, mom injured as cars collide near Enumclaw
ENUMCLAW, Wash. - A mother was injured and her 4-year-old child was in critical condition Wednesday morning as a car and an SUV collided near Enumclaw, the Washington State Patrol reports.
Troopers and medics responded to the scene, on Highway 169 and SE 383rd Street, at about 9 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash.
A 4-year-old child in the back seat of a blue SUV was found with critical injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The child's mother also was injured. She was taken to Harborview by ambulance, said Trooper Rick Johnson of the State Patrol.
A preliminary investigation found that a burgundy Subaru and the the blue SUV were heading north on Highway 169 when the SUV apparently slowed or stopped to make a left turn. A dump truck was on 383rd Street, waiting to turn onto the highway.
The driver of the Subaru told troopers she became distracted by the dump truck and crashed into the blue SUV.
The roadway is completely blocked at the crash scene and is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the accident, Johnson said.
