"Live by Night"

The ever-ambitious Ben Affleck wrote, directed, produced and stars in "Live by Night". It’s a pre-Prohibition crime thriller packed with stars, steamy love scenes, eye-catching costumes, elaborate sets and an edge-of-your-seat shoot-out. Affleck stars as Joe Coughlin —the son of a Boston police superintendent and a man who refuses to work with gangsters. Despite doing everything possible to follow his moral compass, Joe finds himself forced to right some wrongs and becomes a gangster in Tampa. "Live by Night" also stars Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning, Chris Messina and Chris Cooper. It’s rated R.

"Patriots Day"

"Patriots Day" is the dramatic account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing — from the peaceful start of the day to the tragic moments and the manhunt that followed. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, J.K. Simmons and John Goodman in the emotional drama, telling the stories of the heroes who worked to calm the beautiful city of Boston. "Patriots Day" is rated R and just over 2 hours long.

"Monster Trucks"

And the kid-friendly choice for the weekend is "Monster Trucks." One warning: if you see the poster for the movie, you may think it’s an animated movie. However, "Monster Trucks" is all live-action with a lot of CGI effects. It’s the story of a small-town high school senior who finds an unlikely friend in a subterranean creature — or monster. Together, they put a truck to work, to fight criminal activity in their town. We’re not talking masterpiece with "Monster Trucks," but it has some fun moments and the kids in the theater seemed to love it. It’s rated PG.
