Austin City Limits cancels BØRNS performance amid sexual misconduct allegations
AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — The Austin City Limits Festival has cancelled a performance by BØRNS on weekend two after multiple sexual misconduct allegations circulated on social media.
BØRNS, whose real name is Garrett Clark Borns, has been accused of "grooming" a 16-year-old girl he met at a concert. In a statement posted on Twitter, user @alyssaadaniele alleges Borns took her to his hotel room and touched her leg and "other places" further up her leg.
She also says Borns asked her to call him "daddy" during Snapchat conversations when she was 17, and would request specific pictures and videos from her.
The woman says the first time they were "intimate" is when she was 18, but she feels she was "groomed" for this encounter since she was underage. She alleges Borns got her drunk and started touching her, saying "the things he did were things I did not want, and it hurt."
Another Twitter user, @kaliforxnia, says she met Borns in 2015. After being put on a guest list at one of his concerts, the woman says Borns asked her to add him on Snapchat, where he requested pictures. She says after months of no contact and him unfollowing her on social media, she texted him to say how much she missed him.
The woman claims Borns asked her to meet him for drinks in Los Angeles, where instead of going to a bar they ended up at his home. She alleges she became drunk and was "taken advantage of" by Borns.
In a statement released on Instagram last month, Borns denied the allegations, calling them "disturbing and false." He also says "all of the relationships I have had were legal and consensual."
In a follow up tweet, the woman said she was scared for her safety at ACL Fest due to BØRNS still performing:
BØRNS was also dropped from the All Things Go Fall Classic in Washington, D.C. in September.
